Warm welcome at Ulm City Hall: International students meet Mayor Martin Ansbacher

During a special visit to Ulm City Hall on Wednesday, 28 October 2025, international students from Ulm had the opportunity to meet Mayor Martin Ansbacher in person. The meeting was organised by the volunteer initiative ASSIST (Active Partnership and Support of Senior Consultants for International Students), which has been committed to the integration and networking of international students in Ulm for many years.

The students received a warm welcome and gained exciting insights into the city of Ulm – from its central institutions, administrative structures and current figures on municipal revenue and expenditure to the Danube city's contact and coordination points for voluntary work.

Mayor Ansbacher took the opportunity to ask the students about their experiences in Ulm and was available to answer questions and listen to suggestions. In the process, he himself learned new things about his city – for example, that although Ulm is ‘sandwiched’ between Stuttgart and Munich, it has ‘great vibes,’ that the Danube can also be a good reason to move here, and that Ulm has already become a ‘foreign home town’ for some.

A group photo with all participants – the mayor and other representatives of the city of Ulm, the senior consultants from ASSIST, the International Office of the University of Ulm and, last but not least, the international students – rounded off the visit to the town hall.

Afterwards, the group visited the Verschwörhaus next to the historic Schwörhaus on Weinhof. The young operators presented their facility – an urban innovation and co-creation space, a meeting place for creative minds and digital tinkerers, an event location with co-working areas and laboratories. It was a pleasant and exciting visit with lots of chatting and trying things out.
