Top results in the CHE ranking for master's programmes
Psychology, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Chemical Engineering perform very well

Ulm University

In the new CHE Master's Ranking Ulm University, with its courses in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as Psychology, was ranked in the top group several times and its ratings are usually well above the average of all the universities ranked. The "General study situation" in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and the "Support" in Psychology were rated particularly highly. The evaluation by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) combines student evaluations with data provided by the universities.

The Master Psychology is rated by students with an average of 4.3 out of five possible stars, which is very good. The indicators "support during studies" (4.6 stars), "research orientation" and "transition to the Master's programme" (both 4.5 stars) are rated particularly highly. Ulm University is also among the leaders when it comes to facts about the degree programme, such as "Degrees awarded in a reasonable time" or "Publications" and "Third-party funds per scientist". "All the professors of Psychology are fabulous people, both professionally and personally. For this reason alone, I would choose this University again," comments one student on the teaching staff.

In the Master's programme Electrical Engineering and Information Technology students also award very good grades, including 4.7 stars for the "general study situation" and 4.6 stars for the "study organisation" and "support for stays abroad". One student writes in the comments: "Modules can be selected very freely from all research areas at Ulm University. In addition, students can choose specialisations; these smaller catalogues provide a good overview of which courses fit together in terms of subject."

The English-taught master's programme Chemical Engineering programme at Ulm University consistently receives very good ratings from students. The categories "research orientation" and "supervision by lecturers" scored particularly well (both 4.5 out of 5 stars). As Chemical Engineering does not have its own discipline, the University was only able to provide data to a limited extent.

The recently published CHE Master's ranking supplements the evaluation from May 2025, when the Bachelor's programmes in the same subjects were ranked.

The CHE Master's ranking
The most comprehensive ranking of master's programmes in Germany, according to its particulars, has been published since 2015 and provides information on 39 subjects. In addition to facts on the areas of study, research and teaching, the ranking includes assessments by students. The results of the student survey on the general study situation are presented using a 5-star scale. More than 8,000 students took part in the survey this year. The magazine ZEIT Campus publishes a selection of the results of the CHE Master's Ranking in the current issue and online.
