The following changes apply with immediate effect regarding an application for the allocation procedure for higher semesters in Human Medicine

  • Applications can be submitted
    ONLINE incl. all required documents (Upload-Assistent)
    by 15. March (for the summer semester) and
    by 15. September (für das Wintersemester).
  • There is NO longer a late submission deadline for Human Medicine for semesters 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10
    Exception: 5th semester - the Physikum (preliminary medical examination) or the certificate of credit for the Physikum may be submitted by the 30 September if applying for the winter semester.
  • The requirements for each semester have been newly regulated
    see § 10 of the "Statutes of Ulm University on Admission and Enrolment to Studies of December 2022"

After completing the online application, the following documents must be uploaded to your personal upload assistant within the application period: (you will get access to the Upload Assistant at the end of your online application)

  • Data protocol (record of the online application)
  • Applicants with a German education certificate: copy of the higher education entrance qualification;
  • Applicants with a foreign education certificate: copy of the secondary school leaving certificate in the original language and the official translation into German or English; proof of sufficient German language skills (e.g. DSH-2, TestDaF 4x4, telc Deutsch C 1 Hochschule, higher education entrance assessment examination “Feststellungsprüfung”). Germans with a foreign educational certificate also need a certificate of recognition from the competent office for the recognition of education certificates (Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle)
  • Letter/Notice of admission by hochschulstart or the University;
  • Current enrolment certificate indicating the study programme and the semester in the programme;
  • Proof of study achievements/overview of grades;
  • If applicable, copies of (preliminary/final) examination certificates (certificate of the first section of the medical examination);
  • In the case of a higer education degree from China, Vietnam or India: APS certificate or APS confirmation. If APS certificate from India is not yet available, please upload proof of application.n.
  • Change of university location from EU countries and lateral entrants:
    Copy of the final crediting decision of a state examination office as well as the certificate or proof of achievement of the first section of the medical examination for the application to the 1st clinical study section
  • Change of university location:> if applicable, evidence regarding the social criteria (severely disabled person's card, certificate of registration together with the spouse/child, detailed statement of reasons);

For applications: NO deadline for belated submission

In the case of an application for the 5th semester - 1st clinical semester in the degree programme in Medicine, the crediting notice and the preliminary medical examination ("Physikum ") certificate (see above) can be submitted by 30 September for the winter semester.

 

After completing the online application, you will receive a confirmation email with your access data to the application portal. There you will find information on the current status of your application as well as further notifications.

Study places are allocated according to applicant groups in this order:

  1. Applicant group:
    “Move ups” (“Aufrücker”) – Applicants admitted by Ulm University to the first semester in the programme.
     
  2. Applicant group:
    Students changing their university location, students continuing their studies - Applicants who have/had a final full admission in medicine at a German or another higher education institution in a member state of the European Union. 
     
  3. Applicant group:
    Lateral entrants – Other applicants. 

Within the applicant groups, the ranking is based on study and examination results.  Only in the case of applicants who have changed university locations or who are continuing their studies will 50% of the study places be allocated according to study and examination achievements (ranking list), otherwise according to social criteria.

Selection criteria according to applicant groups and semesters

The study curriculum of Ulm University determines the placement of the applicants.

Preclinical area: 2nd – 4th semester in the programme

1. Number of achievement certificates (preclinical)

First clinical semester: 5th semester in the programme

1. The result of the first section of the medical examination (M1)
2. Lot

Second and sixth clinical semester: 6th – 9th semester in the programme

1. Number of achievement certificates (clinical)

5% of all available places (one place minimum) are reserved for cases of exceptional hardship.

Exceptional hardship applies particularly to cases where it is absolutely necessary for the applicant to begin their studies without delay due to health reasons or equally serious circumstances. Applicants who depend on Ulm as place of study due to exceptional family, social or economic circumstances may claim hardship as well.

Please note:

  • the claim of hardship is to be made in the course of the online application. Prerequisite is the fulfilment of the admission requirements for the master’s programme.
  • an explanatory statement including single copies of supporting documents must be submitted within the application deadline. In the case of health reasons, a certificate from a medical specialist must be submitted confirming that immediate commencement of studies is absolutely necessary.
  • claims of hardship will be assessed after the application cut-off date.

Claims of hardship will be considered only from applicants who were not allocated a study place in the allocation procedure based on performance.
