The University’s anniversary celebration is taking place online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. At 3:00 pm on 16 July, the anniversary film had its premiere showing on the university website. Marketing and media staff had pre-recorded segments for the event, including University President Professor Michael Weber’s welcome address and the doctoral awards ceremony.

As part of the digital celebration, the Ulm University Society (Ulmer Universitätsgesellschaft, UUG), represented by Chairman Manfred Oster, presents eight outstanding young researchers with doctoral awards.

The highlight of the virtual anniversary celebration is undoubtedly the keynote address, held by Professor Katja Becker, president of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG). Professor Becker had been scheduled to speak at the anniversary celebration in 2020 as well, which then had to be canceled due to the pandemic. In anticipation of the winter semester, in which the amount of on-campus lecturing at the University is expected to increase significantly, the title of her address could hardly have been more fitting: “Shaping science after the pandemic”.

The digital anniversary can be viewed online on the following website: www.uni-ulm.de/jahrestag2021 as well as on the University’s YouTube channel.
