Four professors from Ulm University are among the 2025 "Highly Cited Researchers" of the database provider Clarivate. This list includes researchers whose work is cited particularly often by other scientists and who are therefore considered to be particularly influential in their field.
The annually updated list of "Highly Cited Researchers" (HCR) from the US company Clarivate is based on data from the "Web of Science", a platform with several scientific citation and literature databases. It identifies researchers whose publications in the last eleven years belong to the one per cent of the most frequently cited publications in the subject area and year of publication. Inclusion as a "Highly Cited Researcher" signals that the researcher's work has been used as a central reference worldwide for many years and thus demonstrates great and wide-ranging influence.
The HCRs from Ulm include:
- Leukaemia researcher Professor Hartmut Döhner. Döhner is Medical Director of the Ulm University Clinic for Internal Medicine III and an expert in adult blood cancers.
- The head of the Institute of Botany, Professor Steven Jansen. The biologist's research interests include water transport in plants and the effects of drought stress on plants.
- The quantum physicist Professor Fedor Jelezko heads the Institute of Quantum Optics and has established a new field of research between quantum technology and biomedicine.
- Professor Stephan Stilgenbauer, Medical Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Ulm and Head of the Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia Section of the Clinik of Internal Medicine III at Ulm University Hospital, is researching tumours and cancer.
In 2025, the list of "Highly Cited Researchers" comprises a total of 7131 entries for 6868 people, as entries are possible in several of 22 specialist areas. Most researchers work in the USA, followed by China and the United Kingdom. Germany is in 4th place with 363 honours.
