Ulm University is once again opening its doors for the Long Evening of Science on Friday, 23 May from 4 pm to 8 pm. Hands-on activities, experiments, guided tours and talks for the whole family will provide an insight into current topics from research and all aspects of studying. QuantumNight celebrates the quantum year 2025. Admission is free!
Families with children, schoolchildren and all science enthusiasts can experience research up close at the Long Evening of Science. Whether at Ulm University East, in the training hospital or in the Botanical Garden Ulm: around 90 offers, some of them interactive, invite you to explore Ulm University. In the quantum year 2025, a special focus will of course be on Quantum Science - Ulm's world-class research in this field is recognised worldwide. As part of QuantumNight, there will be hands-on Physics with exciting experiments for children aged six and over. The mysterious world of quanta will be presented in a way that is understandable for laypeople in the lecture "From Schrödinger's cat to quantum technologies". And anyone who correctly answers questions about quantum technology research and battery and hydrogen research at Ulm University at a status in the forum can win great prizes!
The extensive programme naturally also offers hands-on activities and presentations from the subjects of all faculties at Ulm University: visitors to the To Train U training hospital can apply plaster casts or sew wounds (registration required on site). Engineering invites visitors to the "LEGO Mindstorms Mars Mission", where children from the age of ten can build and programme vehicles for a simulated Mars mission. Guests interested in Natural Sciences can discover special plants on a "Selfie Treasure Hunt" in the Botanical Garden, or find out how a lemon battery works in a "ChemEscape Room". In Mathematics, it's "From theory to the racing car", including insights into modelling, aerodynamics and control systems.
The Long Evening of Science takes place whatever the weather. Catering will be provided by Studierendenwerk (student services) Ulm (cashless payment only). Weather permitting, the evening will end in the Botanical Garden, which will remain open until 9:30 pm.
