The Ulm University Association (Ulmer Universitätsgesellschaft - UUG) brings current research to the citizens. In the lecture series "Experience knowledge - Ulm University in the city centre", researchers report on their specialist areas in a generally understandable way and present current developments. The 33rd condition ranges from technologies inspired by nature and biology to medical and social challenges and neurosurgery. Admission to the lectures on Saturday mornings (15, 22 and 29 November) at 11:00 a.m. at the Sparkasse Ulm on Hans-und-Sophie-Scholl-Platz is free!
Professor Claudia Lenk, Head of the Institute for Functional Nanosystems, will kick off the event on 15 November with a lecture on bio-inspired systems and how the principles of nature can be transferred to technical applications. Such approaches are used in acoustic sensor technology to improve the hearing of people and machines - for example in medical engineering, industry and robotics.
On Saturday, 22 November, Professor Dierk Niessing will explain rare diseases, which are quite numerous and affect several million people in Germany. The head of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology will use the PURA syndrome to highlight current research approaches and show how collaboration between science and affected persons is opening up new approaches for diagnosis and therapy.
In her lecture on 29 November, Professor Aurelia Peraud, Section Head of Paediatric Neurosurgery at Ulm University Hospital, will describe how congenital malformations of the brain and spinal cord can be treated using modern neurosurgical procedures. The aim is to improve the quality of life of affected children.
