Ulm University achieves several top results in the current CHE ranking. Students are particularly satisfied with the organisation of their studies and the support they receive during their studies. Ulm University was also ranked in the top group for support at the start in all study programmes. The CHE ranking describes itself as "Germany's most comprehensive and detailed university ranking" and is compiled in cooperation with the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT.
Students of the new undergraduate subjects surveyed this year rated their study situation and organisation, supervision and the range of courses on offer at Ulm University with predominantly more than four out of five stars. Particularly in the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology programme, the students surveyed consistently awarded four out of five stars or more (4 to 4.7 stars). The organisation of studies scored particularly well (4.7 stars), followed by the equipment of the practical labs (4.6 stars) and the criteria IT infrastructure and rooms (4.5 stars each). The special support provided by the University at the beginning of the programme also scored highly in terms of the facts surveyed about the degree programme, such as international orientation or completing degrees in a reasonable amount of time. Ulm University achieved the top score here with 13 out of 16 points.
In the study programme Psychology programme, students are particularly enthusiastic about the support provided during their studies and the room situation (4.3 out of 5 stars each). In addition to "Degrees in a reasonable time" (84%) and "Support at the beginning of studies" with a full 14 points, the particulars on research strength such as publications per scientist per year (4.3 points), citations (7.2 per publication), third-party funds per researcher per year (Ø 101,200 euros) and 1.1 awards of a doctoral degree per professor per year put Ulm University in the top group.
Also in the subject Chemical Engineering the University also made it into the top group with 12 out of 16 points for support at the start of studies. In terms of international orientation, Ulm University is in the midfield (5 out of 10 points). Due to the low number of cases in this smaller study/degree programme, the ratings provided by the students were not shown in the ranking.
"The outstanding results for support at the start of studies in particular emphasise that no one is left alone at Ulm University - personal support and a reliable support network are a reality here. This is made possible by a culture of cooperation, characterised by mutual trust, open communication and a familiar atmosphere between teaching staff and students. My special thanks go to all employees who work so hard to provide individualised and successful student support. This result is a valuable re-registration and at the same time an incentive to further reinforce our excellent study conditions at Ulm University," says Professor Olga Pollatos, Vice President Education.
About the CHE Ranking
For 25 years, the CHE University Ranking has been the most comprehensive and detailed ranking of German universities, universities of applied sciences and dual universities, according to its particulars. The ranking is subject-related and uses ranking groups instead of individual rankings. It includes the judgements of more than 120,000 students on study conditions as well as facts about studying, teaching, facilities and research in around 40 subjects at more than 300 universities as well as other descriptive characteristics of studying and teaching. Each year, only some of the subjects included in the CHE Ranking are analysed. The surveys are carried out for each subject every three years. The ranking is available free of charge on the online portal "HeyStudium" and also appears in the ZEIT Study Guide 2025.
