Around 1,800 young people will be starting their studies at Ulm University in the winter semester 2025/26. This includes over 900 "classical first-semester students" who are starting an undergraduate degree programme. In addition, there are almost 900 new enrolments who were already enrolled and are now continuing their studies in Ulm or have changed subject. At the start of the winter semester, a total of almost 10,000 students are enrolled at Ulm University.
The new students were officially welcomed to Ulm University on Monday morning in H4/5 by University President Professor Michael Weber and substitutes from the institutionalised student body (StuVe). The speeches were broadcast to other lecture halls. "You are now embarking on a new phase of your life in which you will be dealing with content and topics that inspire you. Keep this curiosity and enthusiasm," Professor Michael Weber advised the new students. "Good grades aren't everything. We will also help you to develop your soft skills, for example by getting involved in the student representative body or one of the many university groups," said chairwoman Julia Fokt and Igor Mikhailov from the Internal & External Affairs department.
This was followed by welcoming speeches from the Deans of all faculties and introductions to the various study/degree programmes. In the morning, important institutions such as the Central Student Advisory Services (Zentrale Studienberatung - ZSB), the Communication and Information Centre (Kommunikations- und Informationszentrum - kiz) and the International Office presented themselves in the university forum. Many university groups were also represented with exibition stands and recruited new students. In addition to a reusable water bottle, the newcomers also received a small clay tablet as a welcome gift. This "tangible certificate of enrolment" with different motifs has been around since 1983 and this year it shows the graduates tossing their hats in front of Ulm Minster at the Academic Graduation Ceremony. The clay tablets are designed and produced by the Centre for the Arts (Musisches Zentrum - MUZ) at the University.
At the start of the new winter semester, a total of almost 10,000 students are enrolled at Ulm University. Experience shows that student numbers will continue to change until around mid-November. Most of the new students have enrolled in the undergraduate subjects of Human Medicine, Psychology and Economics. In addition, 530 people are aiming for a master's degree.
