Inclusive language

Ulm University is committed to respectful and inclusive communication. When writing in English, use language that is clear, inclusive and free from gender bias. Avoid gendered terms where they are not necessary and choose gender-neutral alternatives where possible, for example:

  • chairperson instead of chairman/chairwoman
  • spokesperson instead of spokesman/spokeswoman
  • humankind or humanity instead of mankind
