  • Entrance requirements

    • Proof of a Bachelor's degree with good examination results in programmes in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, pharmaceutical biotechnology, physiological chemistry, neurobiology, biopsychology, human biology, molecular life science or any other programme with essentially the same content at any higher education institution in Germany or abroad or any degree recognised as equivalent awarded after a minimum of three years of study.
      Good examination results are shown by submitting
      • a bachelor's degree with an overall grade of 2.9 or better,
        or if the programme has not yet been completed,
      • all examination results achieved by the date of application showing an average grade of 2.9 or better. The examination results must be documented in a current transcript of records.
    • Proof of an adequate command of English at level C 1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR). This proof may be
      • 7.0 points or more in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
      • First Certificate in English (A), Certificate in Advanced English (A-C) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (A-C) in Cambridge exam
      • 490 (listening), 455 (reading), 200 (speaking) and 200 (writing) points or more in the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
      • 95 points or more in the Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based (TOEFL iBT)
      • level III or level IV of the UNIcert
      • level CEFR C 1 or higher as shown on the higher education entrance qualification. Any level of language proficiency which is in parts on and in parts lower than level CEFR C1 is not recognised, or
      • any examination achievement passed at a higher education institution from the field of English language teaching with C1 explicitly shown as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level, if this is indicated in the transcript of records.
      This does not apply to applicants whose bachelor's or first degree programme was taught exclusively in English.
    • In addition to the above requirements, the applicants must have passed a selection interview.

  • Application documents

    Upon completion of your online application and within the application period, you must upload the following documents using your personal upload assistant (you will receive the link to your upload assistant once you have completed your online application). Please upload your documents as one pdf-dataset with the name '88_300_applicant number_last name_first name' in the following order:

    • data view (protocol of the online application)
    • Form requesting subject-specific additional information, inclusively the required proofs
    • Bachelor's certificate/diploma
    • Transcript of records with the final grade of the bachelor's degree
    • If the bachelor's degree has not yet been granted: record of all programme achievements and examination results obtained in the programme of studies with average grade and the received workload up to the end of the application period
    • For applicants with a degree from abroad: grading system of the study abroad indicating the minimum grade required for passing the bachelor's degree as well as the highest grade possible. If this information is not given in the degree certificate/transcript, it must be provided separately on an official document or letter
    • Proof of adequate English language competence
    • For applicants with a degree from China or Vietnam: the original APS certificate
    • Description of previous career (CV/CurriculumVitae)
    • Letter of motivation: a written report in which the personal and subject-related reasons for applying for the chosen study programme are stated and in which the choice of programme is explained
    • Two letters of reference
    • Additional official translation of the documents into English or German, if the originals are not in English or German

    • Simple, non-attested copy of each document, no authentication needed (exemption: APS certificate)
    • Incomplete applications (missing details or documents) will be rejected

  • Selection procedure

    In addition to the entrance requirements, the applicant must have passed a selection interview. The selection interview is conducted in English.
    Selection in the selection interview is based on the degree of motivation and aptidute for the master's programme shown by the applicant. Thus, the content of the bachelor's thesis, technical and linguistic competence and motivation for studying are discussed in the interview.
