Entrance Requirements Master's Programme in Molecular and Translational Neuroscience

Entrance requirements are:

  • Proof of a Bachelor's degree with good examination results in programmes in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, pharmaceutical biotechnology, physiological chemistry, neurobiology, biopsychology, human biology, molecular life science or any other programme with essentially the same content at any higher education institution in Germany or abroad or any degree recognised as equivalent awarded after a minimum of three years of study.

    Good examination results are shown by submitting
    • a bachelor´s degree with an overall grade of 2.9 or better,
      or if the programme has not yet been completed,
    • all examination results achieved by the date of application showing an average grade of 2.9 or better.  The examination results must be documented in a current transcript of records.

  • Proof of an adequate command of English at level C 1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR). This proof may be
    a)  7.0 points or more in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    b)  First Certificate in English (A), Certificate in Advanced English (A-C) or Certificate
          of Proficiency in English (A-C) in Cambridge exam
    c)  490 (listening), 455 (reading), 200 (speaking) and 200 (writing) points or more in
         the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
    d)  95 points or more in the Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based
          (TOEFL iBT)
    e)  level III or level IV of the UNIcert
    f)  level CEFR C 1 or higher as shown on the higher education entrance qualification
    g)  any examination achievement passed at a higher education institution from the
         field of English language teaching with C1 explicitly shown as the Common
         European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level, if this is indicated
         in the transcript of records.
    This does not apply to applicants whose bachelor´s or first degree programme was taught exclusively in English.

  • In addition to the above requirements, the applicants must have passed a selection interview with an overall grade of 3 or better. All of the individual grades must be 4 or better.

Required Documents Master's Programme in Molecular and Translational Neuroscience

If not stated otherwise, please attach simple, uncertified copies of the following documents to your application:

  • Certificate of the completed bachelor's degree in programmes in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, pharmaceutical biotechnology, physiological chemistry, neurobiology, biopsychology, human biology, molecular life science or any other programme with essentially the same contents and a transcript of records of the examinations taken during the Bachelor's Programme with average grade of your Bachelor's degree
  • If the programme has not yet been completed: transcript of records of all examination results achieved showing an average grade by the date of application
  • Grading system of your studies abroad indicating the minimum grade required for passing the Bachelor's degree as well as the highest grade possible. If this information is not given in the degree certificate/transcript, it must be provided separately in an official document or letter
  • Official translation of the documents into English or German (if the originals are not in German or English)
  • Proof of an adequate command of English at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This proof may be:

  • Description of previous career (CV/Curriculum Vitae)
  • A written report in which the personal and subject-related reasons for applying for the chosen study programme are stated and in which the choice of programme is explained (letter of motivation)
  • Two letters of reference
  • For applicants with Chinese, Vietnamese, Mongolian degree: the original of the APS certificate issued by the Academic Evaluation Office
