Hands-on
Our laboratories and classrooms are top class. Because if you want to make a difference tomorrow, you shouldn't learn the day before yesterday.
Our Bachelor's degree programme in Biology provides a basic education in all areas of biology: Botany, zoology, ecology, physiology, genetics, cell biology, microbiology and biochemistry. In research specialisations, you can deepen your knowledge in internships and excursions of your choice. The biology degree programme also includes the key minor subjects of chemistry, physics and mathematics. Additional scientific qualifications are acquired, for example, in biostatistics, bioinformatics, bioethics and philosophy of science, as well as through courses in the medical field.

The Bachelor of Biology programme is strongly influenced by the research focus of our Department of Biology:
Stress response and resilience of biological systems
Research in this area addresses major global challenges such as climate change and an ageing society. Our aim is to uncover resilience mechanisms on the entire scale of biological systems - from molecular processes to complex ecosystems - and to utilise them for a more resilient environment and society. In the two compulsory elective areas ‘Resilience of Ecosystems’ and ‘Cellular Resilience and Stress Response’, you will gain an insight into various areas of this research focus of the Department of Biology.
