The core of the Bachelor’s programme is an in-depth theoretical education in various sub-disciplines of Chemistry with a strong focus on the areas of Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. In application-oriented and practical seminars and classes you will further explore the theoretical knowledge that you obtained in lectures. A multitude of chemical laboratory courses in the University's modern laboratories complements the theoretical education with essential experimental context – an indispensable part of a young scientist’s training. Theory and practice are equally intertwined throughout the entire Management part of the programme. While studying the essential core disciplines of Management, students have the opportunity to emphasise certain areas of interest like Economics, Accounting and Auditing, Technology and Process Management or Business Management and Controlling. Specific courses in Chemistry and Management combine the competences of both areas by looking at topical questions and problems related to the chemical sector.

From the very beginning, experimental training; (akad.: ) education has been a high priority in the chemistry degree programme. The basic and advanced chemistry practicals take place in modern open-plan laboratories, while the research-oriented project practicals take place in the laboratories of the working groups and institutes.
The Bachelor's degree programme is dominated by compulsory courses, which all students take equally. Comparable to the trunk of a tree, this basic training ensures a solid level of competence in the most essential concepts of Chemistry and First choice, which are indispensable for all later activities. Nevertheless, from the second academic year onwards, more and more elective options come into play and it is then possible to increasingly individualise your studies and tailor them to your own strengths and interests. Elective options cover the entire spectrum of teaching, from classical Chemistry and Management to First Management plus applied interdisciplinary subjects such as Computer Science and Technology. Lectures provide you with an overview and essential connections to topics in the various fields of Chemistry. The concepts and content are problematised and applied in accompanying exercises and/or seminars. Parallel to this, the experimental application of the content takes place as part of extensive laboratory practicals. Practicals make up about half of the chemistry programme, the rest is theory. Courses (bzw. genau angeben: lecture, tutorial etc.) in experimental physics and Mathematics as well as soft skills and/or languages (e.g. technical English), law and toxicology round off the overall package.
Chemistry and Management as an interface course between Natural Sciences and Business Administration is a very popular study/degree programme in industry and the private sector due to the dual skills profile that is acquired with the degree. At the same time, the study/degree programme is only available at selected universities. As early as the second academic year of the Chemistry and Management bachelor's programme, students can choose between various compulsory electives that complement the basic compulsory courses in a wide range of subject areas, allowing them to individualise their studies for the first time. In the area of First choice, there is a large selection of courses on topics such as business analytics, corporate management, controlling, accounting, applied business administration and much more. In the field of Chemistry and Management, there are specific interface courses (Chemical Economics & Co.) as well as overarching topics such as Computer Science, (Bio)Technology and selected aspects of Chemical Engineering.

A great way to broaden your horizons in a discipline is to study at a foreign university. Ulm University students can apply for one or two semesters abroad at numerous universities, both throughout Europe as part of the ERASMUS programme and outside Europe. If lectures are not required, internships and theses at other universities are also possible.
