Applications and pertaining documents which are sent to Ulm University by email will not be accepted. Please send your application and required documents in paper form by regular mail. They must have been received Ulm University, D-89069 Ulm, no later than the last day of the application period.

Entrance Requirements Master's Programme in Chemical Engineering

Entrance requirements are:

  • Proof of a bachelor's degree with above-average examination results in the study programme in Chemical Engineering or another study programme with essentially the same content awarded at any higher education institution in Germany or abroad, or any qualification recognised as equivalent, on a level of at least three years of study.

    Above-average examination results must comply with one of the following criteria
    • final grade of the bachelor's degree of 2.5 or better,
      or if the degree has not yet been completed
    • examination results showing an average grde of 2.5 or better by the application deadline.

          Applicants who do not fulfill the above-average grade and hold a bachelor's degree
          with an overall grade of 3.0 or better had to provide their qualification for this
          master's programme by an admission examination. This also applies if the
          bachelor's programme has not yet been completed and the examination results
          show an average grade of 3.0 or better by the application period.

  • Proof of adequate command of English at level C 1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF). This proof may be
    a)  7.0 points or more in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    b)  First Certificate in English (A) , Certificate in Advanced English (A-C) or Certificate 
          of Proficiency in English (A-C) in Cambridge exam
    c)  490 (listening), 455 (reading), 200 (speaking) and 200 (writing) points or more in
         the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
    d)  95 points or more in the Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based
          (TOEFL iBT)
    e)  Level III or Level IV of the UNIcert
    f) Level CEF C1 or higher as shown on the higher education entrance qualification, or
    g)  any examination achievement passed at a higher education institution from the
         field of English language teaching with C1 explicitly shown as the Common
         European Framework of Reference for Language (CER) level, if this is indicated in
         the transcript of records.
    This does not apply to applicants whose native language is English. 
  • Studies corresponding to the volume defined by the admissions committee in the fields of Natural Sciences and Engineering as well as Mathematics  
  • Basic competencies in the field of Chemical Engineering. That is the applicant
    - has sound knowledge in chemical, thermal and mechanical process engineering
       and can apply the concepts in process engineering to selected problems
    - is capable of experimentally performing basic operations on a laboratory scale
    - has basic knowledge in the modelling and simulation of processes in process 
       engineering
    - understands the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, engineering mechanics and
       technical thermodynamics
    - is capable of analysing and evaluating experimental results in the context of 
       scientific literature.

Bachelor graduates Chemical Engineering of Ulm University

If you received your bachelor´s degree in chemical engineering from Ulm University, you need not apply for the study programme. You apply for change of degree programme in the student administration and examinations office (Studiensekretariat) as soon as you have completed your bachelor´s programme and thus comply with access conditions according to the admissions statutes (grade of bachelor´s degree: 2.5 or better; if the grade of the bachelor´s degree is 2.6 - 3.0: invitation to admission interview; adequate English skills).
