Dr. Julian Frommel

Julian Frommel trat dem Institut für Medieninformatik im Oktober 2014 bei. Er trägt einen M.Sc. in Informatik und Multimedia der Universität Augsburg. Seine Forschungsinteressen beinhalten das Erkennen des Spielerzustands in adaptiven Spielen, Serious Games und Virtual Reality Games.

Mit Abschluss seiner Promotion im Oktober 2019 hat Herr Frommel das Institut verlassen. Wir bedanken uns für die exzellente Zusammenarbeit.

Projekte

Beer Routing – ist ein Individualprojekt im Bereich „Serious Games“: Professor Wahnsinn versucht die Abläufe in seiner Lieblingsbar zu verbessern. Deshalb bringt er dem Kellner den Dijkstra-Algorithmus näher, um die Bierverteilung zu optimieren. Zusätzlich klärt er ihn aber auch über verschiedenste Routingstrategien auf, um für alle Eventualitäten gerüstet zu sein.

2084. Der Terrorismus: Unter Kontrolle. Arbeit: Übernehmen Maschinen. Euro und Dollar: Zusammengebrochen. Einzige verbleibende Währung: Persönliche Daten.

Dies ist das Szenario des im Rahmen des UbiComp-Projekts entwickelten „Pervasive Games“. Ein Pervasive Game ist ein Spiel, in dem die Grenzen zwischen Realität und Spielwelt aufgebrochen werden. Wolltet ihr nicht immer schon einmal erleben, wie es sich anfühlt in der Fußgängerzone von seinen Mitmenschen beschattet zu werden? Dies ist nämlich eine der Möglichkeiten, in unserem Spiel an persönliche Daten zu kommen. Denn wenn jeder auf den anderen achtet, kann nichts Schlimmes mehr passieren. Welcome to the safe new world!

ShareVR is a proof-of-concept prototype using floor projection and mobile displays in combination with positional tracking to visualize the virtual world for the Non-HMD user, enabling them to interact with the HMD user and become part of the VR experience.

Serious Games sind computer-basierte ernsthafte Spiele, die den spielerischen Umgang mit dem Informations- oder Ausbildungsgegenstand beinhalten. Die Anwendungsfelder sind dabei besonders vielfältig und umfassen sämtliche Bildungsbereiche in allen Lebensabschnitten sowie die Gesundheitsförderung, Training spezieller Fähigkeiten und andere assistive Aufgaben.

Das von der Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung geförderte Projekt untersucht verstärkt den Bereich komplexen Problemlösens, die Urteilsbildung des Spielers, sowie die Entwicklung von Strategien und Techniken. Dazu stehen Informationsverarbeitungs- und Gedächtnisprozesse sowie die Aufmerksamkeits-ausrichtung von Nutzern bei Serious Games, deren Spiellogik den aktuellen Bedürfnissen und Fähigkeiten des Nutzers angepasst wird, im Vordergrund. Als mittelfristiges Ziel soll an der Universität Ulm ein international sichtbares Zentrum zur multidisziplinären Serious Games Forschung entstehen, welches anwendungs-orientierte Grundlagenforschung zu diesem Thema vorantreibt und mitbestimmt.

Das Projekt untersucht und entwickelt verschiedene Instruktionsansätze für das Format des interaktiven Online-Studiums. Aus den Ergebnissen entstehen Lehrangebote im Instructional Design. 

EffIS wird im Rahmen des Wettbewerbs "Offene Hochschulen: Aufstieg durch Bildung" des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) gefördert.
