Service category: Software

Servers are provided for the licence activation of various Microsoft products. For Microsoft Office and Windows client operating systems (currently Windows 11), the service is available without restriction to all devices on the university network. For Windows Server operating systems, authorisation must be requested for activation, and licence procurement may also be requested if the customer has not already obtained a licence.

  • Three separate KMS servers are available for the following product groups:
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Windows operating systems
  • Microsoft Windows Server operating systems
  • Activation scripts, in the form of batch files, are provided to carry out the activation. These can be accessed via the software portal at https://portal.uni-ulm.de/SoftwarePortalWI/index.html
  • Upon request, licences for Windows Server operating systems can be procured by kiz (Communication and Information Centre).

Microsoft Office and Windows client operating systems can be activated freely within the university network. For Windows Server operating systems, activation on the relevant KMS server must be requested via a ticket; where necessary, licence procurement must also be arranged.

Fees / Charges

Fees are only payable for Windows Server licences procured on request and correspond to the procurement costs of the licences.
