Software distribution for Windows end-user devices is carried out via a central desktop management system. This is used for the automated deployment of the operating system, hardware drivers and the necessary application software. It is also used for the initiation of software updates and maintenance of the deployed software.

Each application is created and configured once as a software package within the desktop management system. This initial effort usually accounts for the bulk of the packaging work. Subsequent updates to new versions are carried out by adapting the existing software package and, in the case of standard software, usually involve relatively little effort.

Centralised software distribution ensures a uniform, standardised and traceable deployment of operating systems and applications on the managed Windows end devices.

User groups

Staff with managed devices within the kiz (Communication and Information Centre) and the Central University Administration, users of the Windows PC clusters and users of loan devices

application modalities

The service is available on all managed devices. Basic software is pre-installed on every PC; additional software must be requested via a ticket.

• Licence-free, pre-packaged software can be installed directly
• New software must be requested (via the IT coordinator at the ZUV)
