This message concerns you if you use Microsoft Windows operating system and/or Microsoft Office for yourself or your supervised area via the software portal of Ulm University (https://portal.uni-ulm.de/SoftwarePortalWI/index.html) and have activated them.
If this is not the case, you can ignore the rest of this message.
Ulm University joined the new federal framework agreement for educational institutions (also known as the university framework agreement) with Microsoft on 1 May 2025. The contract runs until 30 April 2030.
As part of the contract, the activation of the following software must be adapted on all clients:
- Windows 10 / 11
- Microsoft Office 2016 / 2019 / 2021 and 2024
Older versions are no longer supported and therefore cannot be reactivated with immediate effect.
The changeover should take place by 8 June 2025 (week 23), after which the previous KMS activation server will no longer be accessible. Existing activations are valid for a total of 180 days, thus ensuring a corresponding transition period.
How do I switch the activation?
- Log in to the software portal
- Go to the respective page "Betriebssystem - Microsoft Windows" or "Office - Microsoft Office".
