Open Access has a long tradition at the Ulm University: in 1999, the Ulm Full Text Server (VTS) was the starting signal for electronic second publications. Ten years later, in 2009, the university's presidium decided to set up a fund for the reimbursement of article fees. Since 2012, medical open access publications have also been funded. In 2016, the VTS was replaced by a new system, the Open Access Repository of the University of Ulm. In the meantime, more than 10% of Ulm's scientific articles are published Open Access (based on Web of Science).
On 11 May 2012, the Presidential Board of Ulm University signed the "Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities". At the same time, the Presidential Board published an Open Access Resolution for the University of Ulm, encouraging all Ulm scientists to publish in the spirit of Open Access:
Further good reasons in favour of Open Access can be found in the DFG's "Appeal for the use of open licences in science" from 2014.
Proportionate reimbursement of article fees in OA-only journals:
- Open Access funding since 2009
- 2022-2024 with additional funding from the DFG.
CC licensing of articles in traditional journals for which OA transformation agreements exist.
