Software

Internal software development

The "Internal Software Development" service creates software for the needs of the University's central facilities (primarily web applications) that are neither covered by commercial applications nor by software development commissioned elsewhere.

Licence procurement & administration

The kiz (Communication and Information Centre) offers members of Ulm University access to a wide range of different software. Different contracts for research and teaching and the administration area and leads to a complex contract landscape of multiple, campus and state contracts. This does not include licences for information media. The licence conditions are monitored by kiz (Communication and Information Centre). The product usage rights are made available to users via a publication on the kiz (Communication and Information Centre) website.

The federal framework agreement with Microsoft enables the central institutions of Ulm University to obtain licences for the Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Office.

Scientific software

The service includes the centralised provision of scientific software used in the context of university research and teaching. This includes Mathematics and Natural Sciences software packages, statistics programs, software for data visualisation and analysis as well as development tools such as compilers and numerical libraries. The software is made available both by installing it on the generally accessible computers at kiz (HPC Cluster, PC clusters) and in the form of installation packages and instructions for local installations on users' workstations and departmental servers.

A central licence server is operated for programmes with network licences, which regulates the number of network licences currently in use (concurrent user licences) and grants every authorised user university-wide access to these licences.

The service also includes the provision of documentation and specific support and advice on the use of the scientific software packages provided.
